With asthma, the lungs become extremely sensitive, often making breathing difficult and leaving patients gasping for air. Airways tighten and become inflamed. Often there is a mucus build-up. This can restrict airflow.

It is generally a condition that is life long. For some it is a minor nuisance. For others It can be a major impact on health and lifestyle. Severity can change over time. There is no cure, but it can be controlled and managed.
